It is told that three Mexicans, while passing through, dug wells and later became a reference for the place and community name. The community was certified as a chapter in the summer of 1956. In those days, community members met in front of the trading post until a chapter house was built. The store building until it was condemned.
The Mexican Water Chapter conducts meetings monthly to keep residents informed; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.
